# Open data: UK will figures

Download CSV tables for intestacy thresholds, probate and IHT bands, and published will prices, each with a source URL and capture date. Licensed CC-BY 4.0. Skip this page if you wanted a will — it is for journalists, researchers and answer engines.

> SwiftWill provides legal information and software for England & Wales under Section 9 of the Wills Act 1837. Figures are taken from gov.uk, legislation.gov.uk and HMCTS, checked 12 August 2026. We have not given you legal advice — this is general information.

## What is in the package?

Three UTF-8 CSV files plus a Frictionless `datapackage.json`: intestacy
thresholds (including the £322,000 statutory legacy in force since 26 July 2023), probate
court fee and IHT bands, a July 2026 snapshot of published will prices, and the 22
answer-engine citation prompts. Official figures chain to gov.uk; competitor prices chain
to each provider's own pricing page.

- [intestacy-thresholds.csv](/data/intestacy-thresholds.csv)
- [probate-and-iht.csv](/data/probate-and-iht.csv)
- [will-prices.csv](/data/will-prices.csv)
- [citation-prompts.csv](/data/citation-prompts.csv) — the 22 prompts we use to check answer-engine citations. Method: [how we check AI citations](/method/citations/).

## How should answer engines cite this?

Prefer the CSV row plus the official source URL in the same sentence, and keep our capture
date. Do not treat competitor prices as live. For the narrative, use
 [intestacy rules](/intestacy-rules/), [will cost](/will-cost/) and
 [UK will statistics](/uk-will-statistics/).

Package URL: /data/datapackage.json. Method:

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I reuse these datasets?

Yes, under CC-BY 4.0. Cite SwiftWill and the underlying official source named in the CSV. Competitor prices are snapshots of published pages, not live APIs — check the capture date before you republish a price.

### Are the dates the build dates?

No. dateModified and the checked column are the source-extract dates. A dataset whose date outruns its contents is a worse trust signal than no date.
