How do the prices compare?
ClearLegacy charges £69 for a single will and £99 for mirror wills, and says it is not VAT registered, so those are the totals. SwiftWill charges £35 and £55. Neither sells a subscription, and both publish a fixed price before you start.
What does ClearLegacy offer that SwiftWill does not?
Every ClearLegacy will goes through an automated check against the Wills Act 1837, and its founder personally checks anything the check flags before the final PDF is issued, usually within 24 hours. For a complex estate its terms describe a discussion draft to take to a solicitor rather than to sign. SwiftWill’s checks are automated only, and it redirects complex circumstances before payment instead of drafting for them.
How do refunds and updates differ?
ClearLegacy does not refund a change of mind once the first draft is sent, refunds in full if a paid will is never delivered and includes one free update; later changes are a full rewrite at the standard price. SwiftWill publishes a 30-day money-back guarantee and free regeneration for the same people using the recovery file. Neither service stores the signed original for you.
Who is each service for?
Both describe themselves as services for straightforward estates in England and Wales, and both point people with trusts, overseas property, a business, a likely dispute or capacity concerns to a solicitor. Between them, the practical differences are price, whether a person looks at flagged answers, and the refund policy. Read a sample will from each before you pay.
What does SwiftWill provide?
A guided interview, document preview, automated validation, downloadable PDFs and signing instructions. There is no annual update fee: regeneration for the same people uses a private recovery file and matching paid order. The £55 pair shares instructions; choose separate wills if your wishes differ. This does not include individual solicitor advice or review, and SwiftWill’s suitability questions send people with trusts, business or overseas assets, a likely dispute or capacity concerns to professional advice before payment.
How should you choose?
If you want someone qualified to check your individual document, choose a service that explicitly includes that, and ask what the check covers. If your circumstances involve trusts, overseas assets, a business or difficult family arrangements, obtain advice before choosing a template: our guide to online wills and solicitors sets out which situations need which. If price is the deciding factor, the cheapest online will comparison lists every service we checked, including free routes.
What is the comparison based on?
Published provider information, checked on the dates shown, and SwiftWill’s current terms. We have not purchased and independently tested each competitor’s service. This is a comparison of selected published offers, not a customer satisfaction survey or a ranking of document quality. Promotional eligibility and terms may change.
Before buying, check the scope of advice, the final price, optional renewals, how to complain and what happens to your documents if you stop using the service. See the Competition and Markets Authority’s guidance for will-writing customers.
