A lower price does not establish equivalent service. “Two wills” can mean different products: Farewill’s online pair is individually prepared, while SwiftWill’s pair shares instructions. Which? starts with self-service and charges separately for reviewed packages. TenMinuteWill publishes prices plus VAT; the totals shown add VAT at 20%. What should you compare beyond the price?
Who reads your will, what advice is included, which circumstances are excluded, how changes are priced and what happens if something goes wrong. A review by a solicitor and an automated validation check are different services, and several providers’ terms say their check is not legal advice. The Competition and Markets Authority’s guide to buying will-writing services, published on 9 October 2024, suggests asking any will writer about their qualifications, whether they draft the will or supply a template, their complaints process and their professional indemnity insurance, and getting quotes from at least three.
Regulation also varies. Will writing is not a reserved legal activity, so a will-writing business need not be regulated, and the Legal Ombudsman only handles complaints about regulated providers. FreeWills publishes a £0 price for its will. Among paid services in our dated records, SwiftWill had the lowest published price, at £35 for one will. Read primary provider pages, record their published offer and source next to each fact, and mark information not established as not verified. This is desk research, not a purchase test, legal quality assessment or representative survey. A check date means the source was inspected on that date, not that a provider confirmed it or guarantees it remains available. Where a provider's site blocks automated checks, its last verified date is kept and the block is noted.
We first researched selected providers’ public pages on 9 September 2026 and most recently updated selected provider records on 6 October 2026. Price records span 24 September 2026 to 6 October 2026 (SwiftWill, last verified 24 September 2026; FreeWills, last verified 24 September 2026; TenMinuteWill, last verified 24 September 2026; Make a Will Online, last verified 24 September 2026; Which? We did not buy each service, test document quality or collect a representative customer survey. SwiftWill is included because it publishes this comparison; inclusion and order are not a ranking.
Prices are in GBP, are the total a consumer pays including any VAT, and retain any 'from' qualification. Where a provider publishes a price plus VAT, the total adds VAT at 20% (calculated by SwiftWill, rounded to the penny) and the published pre-VAT prices are kept in exVat. Blank couple prices mean not verified, never zero. Promotional prices, partner vouchers, charity eligibility, extras and complex-work quotes are excluded from the numeric comparison and cost illustration. A separately dated promotion note records an offer and its stated end date. An earlier standard-price record keeps its original check date when a current standard price cannot be verified; it is not a prediction of the price after an offer ends. A pair may mean independently prepared wills or shared wishes: compare the actual product. Confirm current terms at checkout.
The calculator assumes unchanged published prices for one person and continuous optional updates where a usable annual fee was verified. It excludes unverified recurring terms, update offers that are not a yearly fee, couples’ renewal units, inflation, printing, custody, advice and executor charges. Unknown costs are not silently treated as zero.

What has changed in this comparison?
- 6 October 2026. Updated ClearLegacy to £89 single / £129 mirror from 1 October and £89 for a later full rewrite after checking its current sources.
