Is SwiftWill cheaper than FreeWills?
No. FreeWills publishes a £0 price for its wills and updates. SwiftWill charges £35 for one will or £55 for two mirror wills. Paying SwiftWill does not buy an individual solicitor check. If cost and a stated solicitor check are your priorities, investigate the FreeWills offer and its terms before choosing a paid alternative.
How is a free service funded?
FreeWills says affiliate commission on add-on products, partnerships and advertising fund the service. That does not mean an extra purchase is required to create its free will. Read the checkout and any separate offer carefully. Ask what the check includes, how corrections are handled and whether your circumstances fit the service.
What does the solicitor check cover?
The FreeWills homepage says every will is checked, vetted and approved by a practising SRA-regulated solicitor. Its terms say the operating company, Quick Will Ltd, is not a law firm, is not SRA-regulated and does not give legal advice. Both can be true: a check of the finished document is not advice on your circumstances. Ask what the check looks at and what happens if the solicitor finds a problem.
What would justify choosing SwiftWill?
Choose on the workflow you prefer after trying it: SwiftWill offers a document preview, downloadable recovery file and free planning and handover tools. Those features are practical reasons to evaluate the service, not evidence that its document is better or that its automated checks replace legal review.
What does SwiftWill provide?
A guided interview, document preview, automated validation, downloadable PDFs and signing instructions. There is no annual update fee: regeneration for the same people uses a private recovery file and matching paid order. The £55 pair shares instructions; choose separate wills if your wishes differ. This does not include individual solicitor advice or review, and SwiftWill’s suitability questions send people with trusts, business or overseas assets, a likely dispute or capacity concerns to professional advice before payment.
How should you choose?
If you want someone qualified to check your individual document, choose a service that explicitly includes that, and ask what the check covers.
